This is a set of Learning and Teaching materials for the Hoi Ha Wan Field Study. Through an outdoor learning platform, EagleEye, mobile learning device and the learning and teaching materials, a field study was taken at different checkpoints at Hoi Ha Wan, Sai Kung with the aid of Google Earth to prepare field study report. This field study targets not only to enable students to appreciate the marine beauty but also to engage in marine park conservation.
As the mobile learning activity is successfully conducted, special thanks are thereby given to Ms LI Sui-wah, School Principal of Clementi Secondary School, Ms CHEUNG Mei-ling (Computer Science, Head of Department), Mr WONG Chi-man (Geography, Head of Department), Ms LUI Wai-fan, Mr MAN Ho-wai, Buddhist Mau Fung Memorial College and Mr LUK Tsun Hin, Eric, Senior Software Designer, Centre for the Advancement of Information Technology in Education for their dedication and professional support to mobile learning field study at Hoi Ha Wan, Sai Kung.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand the location of Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park
- Understand what have been done in Hong Kong to save the oceans
- Understand the exploiting and managing ocean resources at Hoi Ha Wan in a more sustainable ways
- Find out the latitude and longitude of Hoi Ha Wan
- Use the Internet to search for information about the work done by government in conserving ocean resources
Learning and Teaching Suggestions / User Tips:
- Teachers are suggested to enable students to understand the ocean resources in Hong Kong through the field study and to be aware of the need to conserve and maintain our marine resources through individual effort and school education
- Teachers could arrange students to prepare field study report after the trip
- Teachers are advised to conduct a visit to a local resource centre (e.g. the Jockey Club HSBC WWF Hong Kong Hoi Ha Marine Life Centre) to understand the marine ecology in Hong Kong
- Appreciate the natural beauty of Hoi Ha Wan
- Develop students’ a sense of responsibility towards conservation of ocean resources in Hong Kong
